Let's get one thing straight: Seagreens was a rock band. A very fine young rock band from Springfield, Missouri, as it turns out. While we apologize to those who may have stumbled in here looking to do research on oceanic vegetation, we nonetheless invite everybody to stay and have a look around our online residence.

The band, formed in early 2003, consisted of (er, right to left in this picture) Jim Bultas (guitar and vocals), Jason Loftin (bass and vocals), and Jake "Speed" Schubert (drums and keyboards). The band broke up in late 2004, and Jason and Jake have returned with a new band called The Nova Heat with the extravagant and dashing Ryan Spilken playing his guitar and throat.

Alright, here's the deal: Seagreens has broken up, due to the departure of Jam Master Jim Bultas (see below for details). In its place, Jason and Jake have formed a new band called The Nova Heat. The lineup now consists of:

Ryan Spilken: Guitar/Vocals

Jason Loftin: Bass/Vocals

Jake Speed: Drums

The band's first show will be next Saturday, February 12, at the theater in West Plains, in support of The Marvelous Vernon. The new band will continue to play some of Jason's old material from Seagreens, as well as some new songs by himself and Mr. Spilken. A new website will be coming in the near future as well, but for the time being, come here for all your Nova Heat needs until further notice. Hope you enjoy the new band.

Hello. You may have noticed the ludicrous lack of updates recently. There is a simple reason for this: our esteemed guitarist, Jim "White Lion" Bultas, has decided to leave the band, chiefly to focus on his new career as a goatherder in Bulgaria. While he (and his songs) will be sorely missed, Jake Speed and I have decided to carry on, and have joined forces with a new guitarist/vocalist/songwriter. This new musical unit will undoubtably go in a somewhat different direction, and it is unclear as of yet if we will continue to go by the name of Seagreens, but we will certainly keep you posted when the new band has made its decision.

We would like to thank everybody who supported us in the year or so we were together with Jim, and we sincerely hope that many of you will be willing to follow us into our new musical experience. And Jake and I would especially like to thank Jim, without whom none of this would have been possible. So until we meet again over the wonders of cyberspace, goodbye, kiddies. We'll be back.

It's been a while, as that bald dumpy guy from Staind would say. I hope your collective summers have been going alright; ours has been occupied with recording and moving our Seagreens HQ across town. We've decided that we have enough material recorded to split it up, so our first release will actually be an EP, which is very, very close to completion. A full-length album will follow at some point in the future.

And rest in peace, Don Shipps. He was my first bass teacher ever, when I was fourteen, and he was a truly lovely, generous man, not to mention an absolutely astounding bass player. Springfield won't be the same without him.

Hello friends. Just a quick little update to let you know how things are going in the jolly olde land of Seagreens. We have decided to take the summer off of gigging in order to work on various other projects and finish the recording and mixing of the album. But don't fret; we'll be back painting the town green in September, with a shiny new record ready for public consumption. So have a great summer, and don't drink so much that you think singing "To All the Girls I've Loved Before" at karaoke is actually a good idea. Trust me; I know from experience.

Oh, and sorry for the buzzkill, but Elvin Jones, one of the greatest drummers in the history of the universe, just died the other day. Everybody go and listen to "Afro Blue" from Coltrane's 'Live at Birdland' album. The man was an absolute genius.

Aahhh...a rainy, crappy morning to usher in May, on the other side of last night's show. Thanks to everybody who weathered the blazing inferno that was the Blue Room last night to see us play. Sweat was positively flying off the stage; Bob Seger would be proud. It was a pretty good show, and we debuted a new ex-country song that has no title as of yet. We'll keep y'all posted.

Hey, and don't miss Bender's next show, as they jam out in support of Shallow Howl next Saturday at Nathan P. Murphy's. Until then, stay dry and be kind to squirrels.

Good evening. So we hit the stage again this Friday, April 30, at Billiards Blue Room at 9:00 P.M. It was reported earlier that Nathaniel Carroll would be opening for us, but, due to a loss in his family, he will quite understandably be unable to attend. Our sympathies go out to him; he's a great guy, and we hope to still play with him some time. At any rate, with or without an opener, we would dearly love to see some of you out there on Friday. Stay well until then.

Hey, It's Bender time again, Hoss! The town's best band named for a Futurama character is appearing this Saturday night (April 10, for all you too lazy to get up and look at a damn calendar) at Culley's. The fun starts at 10:00 P.M., and ends when the police start kicking people out for public nudity. See you there!

So we've been working very hard indeed on recording the album; it's coming along nicely. Still no idea when it'll be done, though. Don't worry; you'll live. We are also busy learning a bunch of new material, and we guarantee that the next time you see us, Seagreens will be bigger, better, and sexier than you have ever imagined was possible.

Also, here's a shout out to Mr. Mike Henderson, who is leaving Springfield for the Terminator-ized land of California, the land of the boys with the bulletproof vests and the girls with the cellophane chests. Good luck, Mike!

That is all for today.

Hey! The Billiard's show last night went really well. Thanks to all of you who ignored standard Spring Break practices and actually stayed in town for another day to come see us. And special thanks as well to the Exploding Goldfish, who opened the show and brought in a large segment of the audience. If only we could have gotten the damn dry ice to work....

3/14/04

Great day today, o my brothers. We set up and recorded the rhythm tracks for the entire album today at SMSU. It will of course take a while for overdubs/mixing/mastering/making ourselves look cool for the album cover, etc., but we have the basis recorded for every song that'll be going on the album. Special thanks to our illustrious recording helpers, Phil, Kara, Dan, and Matt, for helping us get the thing banged out today. And the drums sound great. Quite an hombre, that Jake Speed.

Also, be sure to catch us playing Saturday night (the 20th) at Billiard's with the Exploding Goldfish. Details in the 'shows' section. I'm tired.

So there's another Bender gig this Wednesday (March 10) at The Abyss. Damn, those kids do get around, don't they? Busy little beavers.

Everybody listen to Can. Those crazy Germans are kool.

3/2/04

This Thursday night, March 4, Bender hits the stage again at the Burgandy Room, playing the Q 102 Homegrown show from 10:00 to 11:00 (no, p.m., silly). It'll be a lot of fun...or something.

2/28/04

Hey! Just got back from the Amsterband CD release show. We're definitely fans of theirs now; they're a great band, and even got called back for two encores, one of which was a cover of Radiohead's "2+2=5." Badass. And many thanks to them for asking us to play at their show. Bell Dora was also very impressive; go check both of those bands out.

2/22/04

As promised yesterday, we've added another show. We are pleased to announce that Seagreens will be opening Amsterband's CD release party show at the Outland Ballroom this Saturday, Feb. 28. Bell Dora will also be playing. Our set will probably only be about a half hour or so in length, so make sure you're not late. The show starts around 9:00 p.m. Go to the 'shows' section for further details. Until then, keep a good head and always carry a lightbulb.

2/21/04

See; told you we'd start updating the site more frequently. We've just confirmed three new shows for March and April, and more are expected to be added within the week. So head on over to the 'shows' section of the site and start scribbling on your calendars. It's a nice day. I'm going outside now.

2/17/04

Hello again. Hopefully we'll get off our collective asses and start updating the site more than once a month before too long. At any rate, be sure to catch Bender (Jason's other band) at the Abyss tomorrow night (that's Wednesday, for those keeping score at home) at 11:00. Super bad fun is promised for all, and to be perfectly frank, it's not like you really NEED to get to your job on time the next morning...

Back on the Seagreens front, we have started recording our debut album. We don't have any timeframe for its completion yet, but we'll keep you posted about the situation as it develops. And we promise we will do our best to ensure it doesn't suck. That is all for now.

1/10/04

The Billiard's gig last night went well. Many thanks to the Exploding Goldfish for opening the show and bringing in a large and enthusiastic crowd. Be sure to continue checking the "shows" page for newly booked gigs. Also, be sure to catch the public debut of Bender, a cover band featuring our own Jason Loftin on lead guitar, at Culley's next Saturday, January 17th. Should be a rip-snortin' good time for all. Later.

12/9/03

The new site is up. We hope you enjoy it. Meanwhile, Jim has just finished mixing our four song demo and is busy distributing it around town. The songs included are Cameras on the Neighbors, Everything's a Cure, Like a Shotgun, and Potato(e). To listen to samples, please visit the "sounds" page elsewhere on this site. Have fun, kiddies.
